On 3 January 2012 Gary Dobson and David Norris were found guilty of the murder of Stephen Lawrence, 18 years after his stabbing by a gang of white youths at a bus stop in Eltham on 22 April 1993. Voice4Change England has responded with a contribution to Just West Yorkshire’s bulletin:

On Saturday 11th August, Voice4Change England presented a Return to Mexico City, featuring a first time screening in London of Return to Mexico City and Tommie Smith in a live Q&A session. Return to Mexico City is an award winning documentary narrated by Kieffer Sutherland about the lives of Olympic athletes Dr Tommie Smith and John Wesley Carlos, who shot to fame during the 1968 Olympics when they protested what has been dubbed a ‘Black Power’ protest salute upon collection of their medals for the 200 meter dash finals.

On April 1st at the Zion Centre in Hulme, One North West and the Centre for Local Economic Strategies held a joint policy roundtable. This brought together expertise around race equality, economic development and place. The roundtable involved participation from leading academics, representatives of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) voluntary and community sector (VCS), local politicians and also local council officers to ask: ‘where next for race equality at the local level?’

An e-petition to Government has been launched against the eviction of convicted rioters from their homes.
