V4CE send joint letter to the Home Secretary to save the Equality Act

Voice4Change England is supporting a sector wide campaign to save the Equality Act.  Equality legislation is currently under the spotlight on the Red Tape Challenge website.  The website asks whether parts or the whole of the Equality Act should be scraped, reformed, simplified, merged or left as they are.

Better engagement mechanisms needed for Localism agenda to succeed

On 9 June 2011 the Communities and Local Government Select Committee launched the report of its inquiry into the Government’s plans for localism and decentralisation of public services. The Report concludes that ‘Government’s desire to deliver localism is neither supported consistently across Whitehall nor implemented coherently by each department of state’ and that Ministers have ‘so far produced no compelling vision of what their imagined localist future will look like.’  The report makes a number of recommendations including for the forthcoming White Paper on public service reform.

The Government’s decision to wind down the strategic partnership programme to zero by 2014 threatens the delivery of effective social policy, a leading equalities organisation have warned today.

If the Government are to deliver the aspirations of a Big ‘inclusive’ Society, they need strategic support and guidance from the voluntary, community and enterprise sector (VCSE sector), Voice4Change England (V4CE) argue.

For the first time in the history of the voluntary and community sector (VCS), generic and specialist organisations have come together to pioneer a collaborative membership venture. The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) support organisation Voice4Change England (V4CE) have brought together two leading generic support organisations, NCVO and Community Matters, to reach the unmet needs of BME voluntary and community organisations.

No equalities organisations will receive funding as Strategic Partners, the Office for Civil Society (OCS) has revealed today.

OCS has released a list of nine organisations who will receive strategic status and funding as part of their Strategic Partners Transition Programme. The programme will run until 2014 and was open to applications from all 42 existing Strategic Partners. For the remaining 33 organisations, funding will end in March 2011.
