Call to empower ‘hidden’ BME Deaf and Hard of Hearing community

Thousands of people with a varying degree of hearing loss from Black, Minority and Ethnic (BME) backgrounds across Leicester and Leicestershire are missing out on support services, according to a leading D/deaf charity.

Race equality at the local level… where next?

One North West On April 1st at the Zion Centre in Hulme, One North West and the Centre for Local Economic Strategies held a joint policy roundtable. This brought together expertise around race equality, economic development and place. The roundtable involved participation from leading academics, representatives of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) voluntary and community sector (VCS), local politicians and also local council officers to ask: ‘where next for race equality at the local level?’

Transforming Local Infrastructure fund could leave BME VCOs out in the cold

On 15th July the Office for Civil Society Transforming Local Infrastructure programme was launched for infrastructure or support organisations.  The fund, worth £30 million, is intended as short term funding to transform local infrastructure to better meet user needs and respond to the economic reality.
