Societies should be judged by how they treat their most vulnerable. The government should therefore live up to the high-minded principles it affirms domestically and internationally, and take strong leadership in improving the lives of ethnic minorities in the UK.

On Saturday 11th August, Voice4Change England presented a Return to Mexico City, featuring a first time screening in London of Return to Mexico City and Tommie Smith in a live Q&A session. Return to Mexico City is an award winning documentary narrated by Kieffer Sutherland about the lives of Olympic athletes Dr Tommie Smith and John Wesley Carlos, who shot to fame during the 1968 Olympics when they protested what has been dubbed a ‘Black Power’ protest salute upon collection of their medals for the 200 meter dash finals.

Shaping the future: Race and Racism in 21st Century Britain

This seminar series, launched in November 2011 to coincide with the retrial into the murder of Stephen Lawrence, will debate these questions and seek to identify solutions to persistent and emerging inequalities faced by BAME children, young people and their families.

The Government’s decision to wind down the strategic partnership programme to zero by 2014 threatens the delivery of effective social policy, a leading equalities organisation have warned today.

If the Government are to deliver the aspirations of a Big ‘inclusive’ Society, they need strategic support and guidance from the voluntary, community and enterprise sector (VCSE sector), Voice4Change England (V4CE) argue.
